Where are you?

Just got back from a rescue run that was kinda interesting.

The dispatcher said on the pager that the driver didn’t know exactly where she was. All she new is that her car had flipped on the snowy pavement and that she had just turned off 420 but she wasn’t quite to 23 yet. So we rushed out, fire and ems, into the snowy night, driving carefully in our own vehicles to get to our gear and the apparatus. Another page comes, “She may not be where she thinks she is, continue to respond until confirmed.” We continue, anxiously wondering how long it will be before we actually find this driver who is unable to describe exactly where she is.

The radio comes to life again, “Troy Township, cancel, driver is at Front Street.” Simultaneously, all the men in my truck exclaim “FRONT STREET!” Front Street is miles north of the position she gave and not even in our jurisdiction.

It made me think when I got back about how we get ourselves in trouble in life and then can’t even figure out where we are or how we got there. We are not even paying attention to the trip, just moving along. When something happens to stop us and we need help, we can’t even describe our situation or where we are. It’s like what and who is around us is invisible to us. If you don’t know the area where I live, Front Street and 420 are two totally different areas. Under normal circumstances, you would think someone couldn’t possibly confuse the two areas.

But so it goes. I don’t want to judge this woman, because she truly was confused, maybe scared and hurt. When things like that happen, people can do strange things. It makes me want to pay more attention to my surroundings.

The first post in my new home

Welcome to you if you have found me from my old blogger home.  My congregation changed service providers for web hosting and had this space for my blog.  If you have been reading me on blogger, you can now read me here.  It might be a little sparse for a while because I’ll be working on expanding the entire website but I want to write more, honest. :)
