What’s your vision?
Stumbled upon Cold Feet-Longing Heart this morning while I was perusing websites for sermon prep. This has nothing to do with Sunday’s sermon (or does it). Anyway, Cold Feet’s blog post started from a sign in Farmington, Maine. The sign read:
God still plans to make Farmington His New Jerusalem—soon!
The blog goes on to talk about meeting people who seem to have a James Jones kind of faith: One that rejects all churches and goes on their own to “find God.” Then there is the second thought:
My second thought was a bit more positive: what if the sign is a vision statement? What if, by faith, the Christians in Farmington have this plan that is so outrageously ambitious that those who drive by shake their heads and go, “no way, not here!”? Hey, it’s possible! After all, small towns have a good track record with God. Didn’t Bethlehem win the bid for Jesus’ birth over Jerusalem, so why not Farmington? What if those who paid for this sign are also paying for the vision through prayer and love and sacrifice?
Go read the whole thing. I wonder if people shake their head at my community’s faith? Are we “outrageously ambitious?” Are you?
